Major General Susil Chandrapala joined the Sri Lanka Army in the year 1971 as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned into Corps Engineers in 1972. During 34 years of active service he has held many senior important appointments such as Security Force Commander Jaffna and Wanni and Commanded several Field Divisions and Brigades during the conflict against LTTE and finally held the appointment as Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army. During the service he has been awarded Gallantry Medals RWP RSP and VSV USP for the outstanding distinguishes service. Major General M D Susil Chandrapala attended National Defence University (ndu), Beijing, China, and Passed Staff College (psc) at Armed Forces Staff College in Malaysia. After retirement he was actively involved in Ex- Servicemen's welfare activities as the President of Sri Lanka Army Engineers Association (SLAEA), Vice President and ExCo Member of Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) and Secretary and ExCo Member of Association of Retired Flag Rank Officers (ARFRO). He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's Institute (SLESI) since November 2021.
