Dr. (Hon) R.A.H.M.C.T.B. Nawagattegama is a distinguished professional and former officer
of the Sri Lanka Air Force in the Branch of Administration, who served the nation with
dedication, integrity, and leadership for two decades. He commenced his military career in
February 1998 after completing his education at St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala.
Commissioned into the Administrative Branch, he rendered exemplary service until his
retirement in June 2018, retiring with the rank of Squadron Leader. His military career was
marked by professionalism, discipline, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Academically, he holds a Master’s Degree in Business Management (MBM) from the
University of Colombo and is currently reading for an MPhil in Business Economics at the
University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In recognition of his professional achievements and
contributions, he was awarded an honourary doctorate (Human Resource Management) by
Washington Digital University at a convocation held in New Delhi in January 2025.
With a strong background in Human Resource Management, Dr. Nawagattegama has built
an impressive HR career in the civilian sector. He has served as Head of HR and
Administration at WatchGuard Group of Companies, where he spearheaded strategic HR
initiatives, employee relations, and organizational development. At present, he holds the
position of Manager and Secretary to the Board of Trustees at the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s
Institute, Colombo, where he continues to apply his HR expertise to enhance governance,
administration, and the welfare of ex-service personnel.
In addition to his HR leadership, he has actively contributed to sports administration. During
his Air Force tenure, he served as Assistant Secretary for Aquatic Sports and Treasurer for
Motor Racing, roles that showcased his organizational and financial management skills.
Post-retirement, he continues his involvement in sports as the Assistant Treasurer of the Sri
Lanka Billiard and Snooker Association.
Beyond his professional and academic accomplishments, Dr. Nawagattegama is a dedicated
family man, married to Miss Shermila Bandara, with whom he is blessed with three children.
His journey exemplifies a rare blend of service, scholarship, HR leadership, and community
contribution, making him a respected figure both in uniform and civilian life.
